Jean-Louis Vergnon

Family business

For five generations, two centuries, the winery J.L. Vergnon was owned by the family of Elisabeth Regnault. Before she gave her son Jean-Louis Vergnon the vineyards on the hills of the Côte de Blancs in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger as a gift, the family was a retailer of wine and alcoholic beverages. The grapes were sold.

Jean-Louis took over the vineyards in 1950 to make his own wine. His motto: create more exceptionally good grapes for exceptionally good wine. His premature death was very shocking. Yet he achieved a lot. Via Chardonnay to a ‘Coup de Coeur’ for the extra brut in 1987, after which a long list of awards followed.

His life was eventful and too short. Yet today, Jean-Louis is still the inspiration for his wife and children. Together with oenologist Christophe Constant, they continued his work. With the same dedication and passion they achieve success with their Grand Cru Champagnes. Clement, who represents the youngest generation makes great job!
