Based at the historic Château de Montlys in Ampuis, Christophe Semaska revitalized this estate in 1988, which had been dormant since the phylloxera crisis. Today, he manages several hectares of prime Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu, and Saint-Joseph.
Semaska is known for a style that balances power with modern polish, utilizing temperature-controlled fermentation and a judicious use of new oak to frame the intense fruit. His flagship Côte-Rôtie "Château de Montlys" is a concentrated, structured wine that showcases the dark fruit, spice, and smoky notes characteristic of the region’s schist-heavy soils. His work in the vineyard emphasizes low yields and manual harvesting on the precarious slopes, ensuring maximum ripeness and concentration.
