Xavier Monnot

Xavier Monnot takes over his parental domain in 1994 after completing his studies in oenology. Then he invests in the cellar and in the vineyards, by replanting with new (better) clones and expanding the vineyards through massive selection of old vines. The domain is located in Meursault, but the vineyards are wider; from Beaune to Maranges. There is, however, a specialization in different vineyards within Meursault.

We classify Xavier Monnot under the modern category of winemakers in Meursault (like Antoine Jobard). In youth, the wines are sometimes reserved and somewhat reductive, but with time or air the wines open up and express themselves fully.

When we first tasted Xavier’s wines, we noticed the somewhat reductive nose with notes of flint and burnt hazelnuts, on the palette the pure acids and tension with a beautiful structure.
