Vintage report 2008

High Acid & Late Harvest

  • Reputation: A "geek" vintage. It was a cold, difficult year saved by a North wind (the Bise) in September that concentrated the grapes through dehydration.

  • Red: High acidity is the hallmark. They were "electric" and tart in youth but have evolved into complex, transparent wines that clearly show their terroir. Cote de Nuits reds (especially Gevrey) are particularly prized for their "energy."

  • White: Very high acidity. Some are piercingly lean, while others have developed a beautiful "honey and stone" complexity.

  • Current Status: At their peak. The high acidity has preserved them well, but they are generally ready to be enjoyed.
