Vintage report 2007

The White Wine Specialist

  •  Reputation: A "miracle" vintage. A dismal summer was saved by a sunny September.

  • White: Spectacular. 2007 is widely regarded as one of the best white Burgundy vintages of the decade. The wines are chiseled, mineral-driven, and incredibly pure.

  • Red: Light, "crunchy," and red-fruit forward. They lack the muscle of 2005 but offer great "Pinot-purity." The Cote de Nuits generally outperformed the Beaune.

  • Current Status: Drink the reds; enjoy the whites now, though top Montrachets and Meursaults still have life.
