Vintage report 2002

The Golden Child

  • Reputation: Widely considered the best all-around vintage between 1999 and 2005. A perfect September "North Wind" dried out any rot and concentrated the sugars.

  • Red: Pure, racy, and incredibly balanced. They possess a "shimmering" quality to the fruit. Both the Cote de Nuits and Cote de Beaune performed at a very high level.

  • White: Exceptional. Considered one of the best white vintages of the era for its "energy" and citrus-driven profile.

  • Current Status: Peak to Holding. Grand Crus are in a beautiful window right now. They have more longevity than the 2000s or 2001s.
