Vintage report 2000

The Charming Intermediate

  • Reputation: Often overshadowed by 1999, these are "drinker's wines"—accessible, fragrant, and supple.

  • Red: A vintage of "red fruit" (raspberry/cherry) rather than black fruit. The wines are lighter in structure with lower acidity. The Cote de Nuits was more consistent; the Cote de Beaune suffered from localized storms and rot, requiring heavy sorting.

  • White: Very successful. They were ripe and approachable early on.

  • Current Status: Drink now. Most 2000s have reached their limit and are best enjoyed for their tertiary "forest floor" and gamey notes before they lose their fruit.
