The Elegant "Restaurant" Vintage

After the frost-devastated 2016, 2017 was a massive relief for growers, offering both a healthy yield and high quality. It is widely considered a "classic" vintage in the sense that the wines are terroir-driven, fresh, and exceptionally balanced, without the heavy heat influence of later years.

• The Profile: The reds are luminous, red-fruited, and floral. They have silkier tannins and higher transparency than the 2015s or 2018s. The whites are the stars here—crisp, mineral, and precise, often compared to the legendary 2014s but with a bit more immediate fruit.

• Regional Note: In the Côte de Beaune, this is one of the best white wine vintages of the decade—Puligny and Chassagne-Montrachet are particularly electric. In the Côte de Nuits, the Pinot Noirs are "ethereal" and accessible, making them perfect for drinking while you wait for your 2015s and 2016s to age.
