Vintage report 2016

The "Miracle" from Catastrophe

  • The Climate: A devastating late April frost wiped out massive portions of the crop (some producers lost 90%). High mildew pressure in the spring made organic farming nearly impossible. However, a sunny, dry September allowed the remaining grapes to reach perfect maturity.

  • Côte de Nuits (Red): Hauntingly beautiful. The low yields produced wines with incredible intensity and terroir definition, but with a much "cooler" fruit profile than 2015. They are fine-boned, elegant, and persistent.

  • Côte de Beaune (White): Rare and variable. Yields in Meursault and Montrachet were tiny. The wines are a hybrid of 2014's freshness and 2015's richness, offering a "salty" and energetic profile.
