Vintage report 2014

The White Wine Benchmark

  • The Climate: A warm spring led to a successful early flowering. However, another massive hailstorm in June hit the Côte de Beaune hard (Meursault to Beaune). A cool summer was saved by a perfect, dry September that allowed for slow, phenolic ripening.

  • Côte de Nuits (Red): A "classic" year. The wines are less voluptuous than 2012 but riper than 2008. They show pure "Pinot" fruit, fine tannins, and a disarmingly approachable texture.

  • Côte de Beaune (White): A modern legend. Considered the best white vintage in a generation (often compared to 1996). The wines have immense concentration, high acidity, and a chiseled, saline finish. Puligny and Chassagne-Montrachet are spectacular.
