Vintage report 2006

The "Underdog" Successor

  •  Reputation: Often overlooked in the shadow of 2005. It was a rollercoaster year with a hot July and a wet August.

  •  Red (Cote de Nuits): Very successful. The wines are "fleshier" and more accessible than the 2005s. Appellations like Chambolle-Musigny and Vosne-Romanée show lovely, succulent fruit.

  •  Red (Cote de Beaune): More variable due to localized rot. Careful sorting was required.

  •  White: Excellent. Many critics prefer the 2006 whites to the 2005s because they have better tension and aromatic lift.

  •  Current Status: Drinking beautifully now. A great "restaurant vintage."
