Vintage report 2019
The "Modern Legend"
2019 is frequently cited by critics as a "perfect" solar vintage. While it was hot like 2018, the yields were much lower, which concentrated the acidity along with the sugar. The result is a vintage with the "power of the sun" but the "soul of Burgundy."
• The Profile: These wines are "hedonistic." The reds have a seductive, silky texture with deep, multi-layered fruit (raspberry, violet, and blood orange). The whites are incredibly concentrated and "viscous" but stay balanced by a thrilling, high-energy acidity.
• Regional Note: The Côte de Nuits produced some of its most profound wines of the century in 2019, particularly in Gevrey-Chambertin and Vosne-Romanée. In the Côte de Beaune, the whites are massive and age-worthy. If you are looking for a vintage to cellar for 20+ years, 2019 is the consensus choice.
